Charity Spotlight: Physicians for Reproductive Health
PRH unites the medical community and concerned supporters to improve access to comprehensive reproductive health care.
Today, Americans’ reproductive health care rights are under attack. Twenty million women in need of publicly funded services in the U.S. have limited or no access to clinics that offer a full range of contraceptive services. Some states have only one abortion clinic available at all. Employers are no longer legally required to provide health insurance that covers birth control. And the barriers to access continue to mount.
As the leading resource for health care providers who advocate to protect reproductive freedom, Physicians for Reproductive Health (PRH) use science-based evidence, medical expertise, and patient experiences to influence legislation, medical practice, and public opinion. They train physicians how to become effective advocates at the federal and state levels. They cultivate a national network of providers and dedicated allies who provide critical professional support and resources. And they provide a forum for physicians to educate other clinicians in the best practices of reproductive and sexual health care.
Their Leadership Training Academy (LTA) has provided nearly 350 physicians from 43 states with intensive training, making them effective, lifelong advocates to protect and promote comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care. PRH trains and mobilizes 30-40 more new physician-advocates each year.

What's next for PRH?
With capacity-building support from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, PRH has developed a plan to restructure their membership program by engaging their constituents more deeply in advocacy. They will begin implementation of new strategies to build and engage a more diverse, resilient and sustainable community of advocates and supporters.
They will also hold the second LTA in-person training in New York, where their current class of 32 Fellows will further develop the skills needed to become lifelong advocates for reproductive health care and justice.
