Four nonprofits you can support on International Women's Day

Celebrating and investing in women

Women's History Month and International Women's Day are opportunities to celebrate past accomplishments and to invest in the work of inspiring nonprofits empowering women today.

Earlier this year, when the first female vice president entered the White House, women and girls around the world were reminded what they're capable of. Yet despite the great strides that have been made towards gender equality, we still have much work to do.

Below are four inspiring nonprofits led by and empowering women and girls whether through career advancement, education, family stability, STEM engagement, health rights or more. Consider making a gift through Goodnation to any of these or another nonprofit of your choice in honor of International Women's Day (March 8) and Women's History Month.

Center for Health and Gender Equity (CHANGE) secures and protects sexual and reproductive health and rights for all by elevating women's voices, driving public conversation and shaping US global health and foreign policy. Among other achievements, CHANGE's policy advocacy has led to $500 million in federal government funding for HIV prevention among young women and adolescent girls. Your support of CHANGE will help them continue to advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights. Learn more.

New Women New Yorkers (NWNY) provides professional development and other programs to empower immigrant women to get their first paying, meaningful job in the NYC workforce or pursue higher education and to build community. In 2020 they served 200 new participants along with 251 alumni. Your support of NWNY will allow them to continue to offer a safe, inclusive space where immigrant women can build community and share their stories. Learn more.

STEM from Dance gives girls of color access to a STEM education by using dance to empower, educate and encourage them as our next generation of engineers, scientists and techies. 85% of girls in their program experienced a positive change in interest and excitement in STEM. Your support of STEM from Dance will allow them to continue to reach a demographic that otherwise encounters barriers to entering the field. Learn more.

Jeremiah Program offers one of the country’s leading strategies for dismantling systemic barriers that have led to an epidemic of poverty among single mothers and their child. They provide career coaching, life skills training, early childhood education, affordable housing and a supportive community while moms receive a post-secondary degree. Your support of Jeremiah Program will allow them to continue to invest in single moms, their children and, as a result, society. Learn more.
