The economic repercussions of the fires continue to be felt acutely in communities, as does the emotional trauma experienced by community residents.
At the same time, tens of thousands of people eligible for compensation are not filing their PG&E claim, for fear that they’ll be taking money away from people who may need it more.
That’s why Goodnation, in partnership with the Mayacamas Ranch in Calistoga, CA, which was destroyed by the 2017 Tubbs Fire, has built the Rise and Regenerate Fund, making it easy for claimants to donate part of all of their claim to vetted nonprofits doing work on the ground to help those communities affected by the fires.
“It may seem counterintuitive that people donate money they are receiving as compensation for damages to their property, but many California wildfire victims are not filing claims because they feel there are others who need the money more than they do,” says Rob Hansen, President of Goodnation. “If you don’t file before the deadline, the money will most definitely not get to those who are still suffering. We built the Rise and Regenerate Fund as an easy and innovative way to ensure the PG&E claim money reaches the victims who need it the most and as quickly as possible.”
Even if you are not a wildfire victim, you can support the fund with a gift of your own.
Missions of nonprofits in the fund include supporting recovery and preparedness efforts for victims, providing emotional and financial assistance to firefighters, offering healing for psychological trauma and stress, and supporting undocumented families affected by the fires.
